Know a little more about...
The company started the English Program in the year 2004, and 2 years before they carried out studies and investigations regarding the requirements of children, students, teachers, parents and schools, to find the exact ideal method to teach English here - in other words, to discover the Chilean Reality.
Asesorías and Ediciones WS Ltda. began with the idea of teaching English to children in the First Cycle, (grades 1 to 4). Along with a group of professionals in the Education area headed by Lyannann Lovejoy, the coordinator, who with Graham A. Wigg and Marisol Sotomayor decided to search for a way to encourage children to identify with a very Chilean character.
They carried out an investigation of Condorito (a Chilean Condor cartoon figure), reaching the conclusion that this character had a strong appeal to Chilean children and adults. In this way they realized they could involve both these groups in the learning process by incorporating this very important element - Condorito, in brightly coloured sketches and drawings.
During the last few years WS decided to embark on a new education Project still using the same texts and CD's which have proven to be successful in many schools in Santiago.
The idea is to open various new opportunities for students from low income areas to learn the language, by contacting and convincing private companies to make donations of the Program through their Social Responsibility department.
The Program allows companies to donate texts to 10% of Chilean school students in grades one to four, by the year 2010. This also incluyes, at no extra cost, training for teachers, workshops and back-up to the schools through the Internet.
With this program, called "Chile 10% English, First to Fourth," it was felt that they could reach all different regions of Chile from Arica to Punta Arenas.
This Program already has "Patrocinio" of the Ministry of Mining, the Education Ministry and the Bicentenary Commission as well as Sponsorship from, Sofofa, Cine Hoyts, Minera Valle Central, etc…
With this Project, each day the children of Chile become more bilingual and can be assured that they will have better opportunities in their future lives.
